Class of 2024 Healthcare Day Sponsored by Georgia Cancer Center

Class Updates,

The Healthcare Day commenced with a tour of the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, led by Catherine Stewart, Kelsey McCullough, and Kim Basso, providing participants with insights into philanthropy coordination and women's and children's services. Attendees also learned about pediatric transport and ECMO specialization, exploring a Neonate Transport Ambulance and helicopter under the guidance of Jason Herald.

Later, participants gained firsthand experience inside Pediatric Operating Rooms, guided by Dr. Walt Pipkin and Amanda Rabun. Following a short break, Harleigh Smith introduced the role of Child Life Specialists, including a demonstration with one of the facility dogs.

The class then shifted focus to the Georgia Cancer Center's quest for NCI designation, led by Dr. Jorge Cortes. A working lunch session was facilitated by Katie Wynn from Dynamik Consulting, fostering celebrations and reflections.

Afterward, the group departed from the Children’s Hospital of Georgia for Piedmont Augusta, where they toured the Heart and Vascular Institute. Subsequently, they traveled to Doctor’s Hospital for a tour of the Burn Unit, led by Jane Echols.
