Alumni Spotlight: Rick Herring

Leading Now,

What was your favorite class day?

Military Day! I am not a veteran, so I feel called to support active duty and veteran families.

How did LA impact your professional life, career trajectory, and community involvement?

(A) the networking opportunities as a member of Leadership Augusta are incredible. And (B), almost all of us develop at least a few relationships with our class members that are long lasting, even permanent.

Are you more involved in the community since graduation? How? Where?

Yes. I was a nonprofit staff member during the time of my Leadership Augusta experience. I now serve on six nonprofit boards: Leadership Augusta, CSRA Veterans and Families Foundation, CSRA Veterans Foundation, The Father’s Heart Ministry, Christian Learning Centers, and Veteran K9 Solutions.

Favorite memory from your class year?

At graduation, I received an award from my class – “Most Likely to Serve.” I decided to run up to and jump on the stage. In front of ALL THOSE PEOPLE I FELL FLAT ON MY FACE. Very humbling…

What advice do you have for people interested in participating in LA?

Please be fully present, with your heart, mind and Spirit. This is how you best learn and grow.

Why should others apply to be a part of LA?

I am so proud that current and recent classes have offered a lot of diversity. Our community is diverse, and LA should be too. And it is.
