Alumni Spotlight: Nichole Spencer
What was your favorite class day?
Hands down - History Day. I always say LA Class Days are field trips for grown-ups and this one was amazing. Not being from Augusta, my historical knowledge was very surface level, but History Day changed that.
Are you more involved in the community since graduation? How? Where?
After graduation, I joined the board of directors and have been involved ever since. This "behind-the-scenes" experience has shown me what all goes into this volunteer-led organization. It's a lot of work but so rewarding. I also had the chance to join Queensborough as their Marketing Director. Queensborough is a true community bank and encourages employees to be involved in making our community a better place. Through work, I've had the opportunity to volunteer for United Way project serve, Child Enrichment and Golden Harvest.
Favorite memory from your class year?
Dare I say the talent show? The retreat overall was an incredible way to bond quickly with people you didn't know just a few weeks ago. I knew very few people in my class at the start of the year, but by the end of the retreat, we were all very tight. Five years later, and I feel like I could call on any one of my Class of 2020 classmates if I needed something.
What advice do you have for people interested in participating in LA?
If you have the chance to take part, do it. You will not regret the people you meet, relationships you form and overall connectedness to the place you call home.
