Alumni Spotlight: Natalie Butler
What was your favorite class day and why?
My favorite class day was Arts Day because it was an engaging and interactive experience. We spent the day at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, participating in various hands-on projects that allowed us to express our creativity. The highlight of the day was visiting Hornsby Elementary School, where we had the opportunity to break into groups and perform a play for the 3rd graders. Seeing their excitement and enthusiasm was incredibly rewarding, especially when they got to ask us questions afterward. It was a meaningful experience to serve as role models and showcase the importance of the arts to the youth in Augusta.
How did LA impact your professional life/career trajectory/community involvement?
LA provided me with incredible opportunities to connect with inspiring individuals and build meaningful, long-lasting friendships. Each class day was uniquely structured, allowing us to engage with key community leaders and ask important, thought-provoking questions. This experience deepened my understanding of how I can actively contribute to my community and make a lasting impact.
As leaders, giving back is essential, and LA has given me the platform to do just that. On a personal level, I was honored to be selected by my class to serve on the LA Board of Directors, which has been a transformative opportunity. This role led me to become the Youth Leadership Augusta (YLA) Task Force Chair, where I play a pivotal role in theredevelopment of our YLA program. I work alongside eight other dedicated youth leaders, leveraging their expertise to ensure the program's long-term success. Through this experience, I’ve gained valuable leadership skills, expanded my professional network, and strengthened my commitment to shaping the future of Augusta’s youth.

What's your favorite memory from your class year?
My favorite memory was our Retreat to Columbus, GA. Traveling out of town and experiencing how another riverfront community thrives was incredibly inspiring. From whitewater rafting and zip lining to exploring the downtown district and sightseeing, every moment was filled with excitement and discovery.
Beyond the activities, the retreat was a perfect opportunity to bond with classmates and start building the friendships that mean so much to us today. It was an unforgettable experience that not only strengthened our connections but also set the tone for an amazing year of growth, learning, and leadership.
What advice do you have for people interested in participating in LA?
If you’re looking to network, build lasting relationships, gain a deeper understanding of the Augusta community, and grow as a leader, then Leadership Augusta is absolutely for you. This program offers invaluable experiences, connecting you with influential leaders and providing opportunities to make a real impact.
Having started my career at the Chamber as the LA Coordinator nearly five years ago, I’ve seen firsthand just how transformitive this program can be. My biggest piece of advice? You get out of it what you put in. Engage fully, ask the tough questions, and take advantage of every opportunity to contribute. The connections you make and the lessons you learn will not only shape your leadership journey but also empower you to give back to the community in meaningful ways. If you’re willing to invest in the experience, Leadership Augusta will be one of the most rewarding programs you’ll ever be a part of.
